DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Wildcat women's soccer team was honored for the 20th consecutive year for their outstanding academic success this past season as they were recently awarded as a team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Davidson earned the Women's College Team Academic Award from the NSCAA for the 2013-14 season. The program has won the award every year since the inception of it in 1996. The Wildcats were one of 600 women's teams to post a team grade point average of 3.0 or above to earn the academic team honor.
Davidson as team under the guidance of 11th-year head coach Greg Ashton finished with a team GPA of 3.36.
"The team takes great pride for all the hard work and success they have in the classroom," said Ashton. "The NSCAA Team Academic Award is recognition for that hard work over the course of the year. Davidson is a challenging environment on top of the time and effort put into the soccer program. Being able to balance the two is critical for the team's overall success. I'm extremely proud of the team's academic achievements and all they do to represent Davidson College."
A total of 890 soccer teams (290 men, 600 women) posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher to earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award. Of those teams, 211 schools had both their men's and women's program's recognized.
Davidson will be entering its second year in the Atlantic 10 this Fall and will welcome 12 incoming freshmen to a group of 18 returning letterwinners for the 2015 season.
