‘Cats Set 5 New Program Marks At First A-10 Championships

Day 1 Recap
KINGSTON, R.I. – Davidson broke five schools record across the two-day 2015 Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship event. The Wildcats finished 12th in their first-ever conference championship appearance.
"I am so proud of how our girls competed today," said Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Jen Straub. "We raced well and we have a lot of be proud of."
On the first day, Davidson broke records in the 5,000 meters, 1,000 meters and the distance medley relay. The Wildcats then set new marks in the 4x800 relay and the 3,000m on the final day of competition.
Senior Erin Osment shattered the previous Davidson program record by 23 seconds in the 5,000m (16.48.44) to take third. Sierra Ponthier set a new record in the 1,000 with a time of 3:00.5. In the DMR, the Wildcats foursome of Brigid Behrens, Sarah Paddon, Hannah Rieden and Sarah Sears crossed in 11:51.94 to crush the previous record of 12:15.69 and place third.
In the 4x800 relay, the Davidson foursome of Sears, Behrens, Olivia Menden and Rieden posted a time of 9:07.35 to set a new mark. Osment concluded her weekend with another record, as the senior broke the previous mark in the 3,000 with a time of 9:53.20.
The senior class, in their last indoor meet of their careers, went out with a bang. Erin Osment broke two schools record, while Ali Cobb recorded a personal record in the 800-meter run and Molly Marshall had a strong showing in the pole vault this weekend.
"This class has been key to the success of the team this season" said Straub. "They have all embodied the true meaning of a Davidson student athlete and we thank them for all our their contributions. They will always be part of the Davidson Track and Field family"
In the 4x800-meter relay, Davidson once against found itself on the podium. The Wildcats earned a third-place finish. Davidson foursome of Sarah Sears, Brigid Behrens, Olivia Menden and Hannah Rieden posted a time of 9:07.35, to set a new program record. Davidson trailed Richmond (9:04.95) and Fordham (9:02.58), which sent a new facility record.
In the 3,000 meter, Osment raced to a sixth-place finish in record-breaking fashion. The senior clocked a 9:53.20 to break the previous mark of 9:53.37, set by Brenna Burns in 2007.
Hannah Moerk earned a top-10 finish in the one-mile race. The freshman posted a time of 5:09.63 to place ninth.
In the last event of the 2015 championships, Davidson posted ninth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The quarter of Ashlyn Gruber, Grace Watt, Jenna Boue and Brigid Behrens clocked a 4:03.83.
Davidson finished their inaugural championship in 12th place. VCU won the conference with 125 points.
