
Freshmen Tennis Duo Grab A-10 Rookie of the Week Again

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — For the second week in a row, the freshmen men's and women's tennis tandem of Shamael Chaudhry and Anna Catharine Feaster were named the Atlantic 10 Rookie Performers of the Week for matches played from Feb. 9-16.
Chaudhry helped the men's team go 3-0 last weekend on the road against Sacred Heart, Fordham and Saint Francis, with the victory at Fordham being Davidson's first-ever in A-10 play. Feaster assisted the women's team in sweeping a doubleheader last Saturday against Wingate and Gardner-Webb at home.
A native of the United Kingdom, Chaudhry continued his impressive run to start his collegiate career by going a perfect 3-0 last week in singles to push his personal winning streak to six straight. The freshman also picked up a doubles win with Ricky Saad, an 8-6 triumph at Sacred Heart to remain unbeaten at 3-0.
The Wildcats No. 1 singles player cruised to wins over Sacred Heart (6-2, 6-1) and Fordham (6-0, 6-1), helping Davidson earn its first-ever A-10 win in a 4-0 win. Chaudhry then came back in a three-set match at Saint Francis to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 to run his singles record to 6-1.
In 6-1 and 7-0 team wins against Wingate and Gardner-Webb, Feaster also went unbeaten at 4-0 in both singles and doubles combined. She dominated in singles action, giving up just one game in her four sets played at No. 2. Feaster rattled off 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 wins to push her winning streak to four straight.
In doubles play, Feaster teamed up with Ally Sexton at No. 3 to win their fourth and fifth matches in a row. They tallied a 7-6 (7-4) win over Wingate and then capped the day off with a 6-2 decision against the Runnin' Bulldogs to remain perfect on the season at 5-0.
Davidson men return home this weekend for three matches, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb 21, against Limestone and USC-Upstate. The Wildcats will also host North Carolina A&T Sunday at 1 p.m.
The women's team goes on the road to face Campbell Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
