Davidson Program Records Fall at HPU Challenge

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Davidson women's track and field program broke two school records at the High Point Team Challenge Thursday at the JDL Fast Track. Hannah Rieden broke the 800-meter indoor record and the 4x400 meter relay mark fell.
In the 800-meter run, Davidson put six runners in the top-10. Rieden led the way as she broke the school record. The sophomore clocked a 2:15.83 to best the previous record, which sat at 2:16.55, set by teammate Brigid Behrens at this meet last year. Behrens and Olivia Menden finished third and fourth respectively. Sarah Sears (2:18.20), Ashlyn Gruber (2:19.28) and Grace Watt (2:22.13) rounded out the top finishers for the Wildcats.
The 4x400 relay team of Gruber, Watt, Rieden and Behrens also set a new school record in the event. The squad crossed the line in 4:01.62 to break the previous mark of 4:02.74 set in 2014.
Sophomore Hayden Bates claimed victory in the 3,000-meter event. Bates posted personal record of 10:16.
Freshman Helen Webster earned a sixth place finish as the rookie crossed the time in 10:36.68, while Caroline Turner (10:37.83) and Grace Falken (10:44.29) took eighth and 10th respectively to round out top finishers.
Freshman Hannah Moerk led the pack in the one-mile run. Moerk ran a personal record of 5:06.99 to take fifth place. Sierra Ponthiers was the next Wildcat to cross the line with a time of 5:09.01 to take eighth, wile Erin Osment posted a time of 5:09.52 for ninth place.
In the high jump, Anna Memoli took third (1.50m, 4'11.25), while Stephanie Hautamma earned a fourth place finish in the pole vault with 3.20m, 10'6'').
The Wildcats will return to action for the Atlantic 10 Championships, Feb. 21-22.
