
Phillips, Samet Named to Conference All-Academic Team

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Seniors Ryan Phillips and Daniel Samet of the Davidson men's cross country team have been recognized for their work in the classroom as the pair were named to the 2015 Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
Phillips and Samet were key contributors to the successful season, which saw Davidson race to a third place finish at the A-10 conference championships and a 13th place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional Meet.
Phillips, a product of Ridgewood, N.J., registered an 11th place finish at the conference championship. Phillips clocked a 24:57.2 to earn a spot on the All-Conference team. At the NCAA Southeast Regional Meet, Phillips raced to a 52nd place finish with a time of 30:59.6. He was the top Davidson finisher at the Richmond Invitational, claiming first place and at the Greater Louisville Classic where he took 48th out of 213 runners. Phillips is studying physics.
Hailing from Washington, D.C., Samet earned A-10 All-Conference accolades after racing to a 13th place finish with a time of 25:00.4 at the league championship. A week later, Samet covered the 10K course in 31:34.6 at the NCAA Southeast Regional Meet to help the Wildcats to its best finish in recent seasons. He was the top Davidson finisher at the Commodore Classic, taking 28th and at the Wake Forest Invitational where he claimed 41st. Samet is a history major.
To be eligible for the A-10 all-academic credentials, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.0 grade point average or better.
