CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior Will Brewster and senior Ryan Phillips claimed top-55 finishes in the 10K at the NCAA Southeast Regional Friday leading Davidson men's cross country team to a 13th-place finish.
The Wildcats earned a 13th place finish with an average time of 31:21.48 for 379 total points. It marks the best finish at this event in recent seasons, as Davidson will finish out the 2015 campaign ranked 13th in the southeast region. Louisville won the race, placing four runners in the top-20, while Virginia took second thanks to five top-30 finishes.
Brewster and Phillips paced Davidson for much of the 10K men's race, while Daniel Samet and Walker Mogen also claimed top-100 finishes out of 223 runners for the Wildcats.
Brewster turned in a stellar performance, finishing 39th in a time of 30:40.1. Phillips wasn't far behind, as the senior crossed the line in 30:59.6 to take 52nd overall. Samet was the next Wildcat runner off the course in 79th place, recording a time of 31:34.6. Mogen covered the course in 31:46.5 to rank 89th.
Aaron Forburger (32:21.6) and Dylan Carmack (33:18.2) rounded out the Davidson running contingency.
"We ran very well overall today, with Will Brewster leading the way," said men's head coach Renny Waldron. "The team did an exceptional job of being patient and moving up throughout the course." While it's great to end the season on a high note, it is a bittersweet day because it marked the last time our three seniors-- Ryan Phillips, Daniel Samet and Aaron Forburger-- will have worn the Davidson uniform on a cross country course. They have given so much to the school and to the team for the last four years and we are very proud of all they accomplished; they will be sorely missed next year! That being said, we are looking forward to have them for the remaining indoor and outdoor seasons."
