Season Rewind
Davidson has thoroughly competed in the five meets this fall, including most recently at the Wake Forest Invite.
In the season opener, Davidson raced to a first-place finish at the Richmond Invitational, for its top performance of the season. Senior Ryan Phillips finished the 5K in 15:05.9 to capture first-place by a margin of 5.9 seconds.
In a loaded field, the men captured 11th out of 20 squads at the 2015 Commodore Classic (Sept. 19). Senior Daniel Samet paced the Wildcats with a 28th place finish. Davidson also put together strong outings at the Wake Forest Invite (8th of 18) and the Greater Louisville Classic (12th of 24).
Leading the Pack
Seniors Ryan Phillips and Daniel Samet have been consistent scorers throughout the season. The senior tandem has split the role of leading the Wildcats. Phillips turned in the team's top performance at the Richmond Invitational and the Greater Louisville Classic, while Samet posted top finishes at the Commodore Classic and the Wake Forest Invitational.
Immediate Impact
Davidson has benefited tremendously from two newcomers this season - Will Brewster and Dylan Carmack.
Brewster has scored in all four meets he competed in this season, including a top-five finish at the Richmond invitational. Brewster has been the second Davidson athlete across the line in three of the four meets, while claiming the third scoring position at the Greater Louisville Classic.
After finishing in the sixth position in the first event of the season, Carmack has found his stride, turning in three consecutive scoring performances for the Wildcats. A week ago, Carmack was the team's No. 3 at the Wake Forest Invitational. He also has been the team's No. 5 (Commodore Classic) and No. 4 (Great Louisville Classic) this season.
Running Deep
The Wildcats have benefited from depth this season. A quartet of runners has contributed to the scoring contingency.
Sophomore Ian Robertson has turned in consistent showings earning three top-five team finishes this season. Classmate Ramsay Ritchie finished in the No. 5 position at the Richmond Invitational and the No. 4 position at Wake Forest. Senior captain Walker Mogen claimed the fourth scoring position at the Commodre Classic.
Honor Roll
Ryan Phillips and Daniel Samet have each earned Atlantic 10 Men's Cross Country Performer of the Week distinctions. Phillips earned the distinction after earning a first-place finish at the Richmond Invitational. Samet was awarded the conference's top-performer after turning in Davidson's top performance at the Commodore Classic, where the WIldcats finished 11th among a competitive field.
Scouting the Field
The Atlantic 10 features five teams ranked in the Oct. 19 USTFCCA regional polls. In the Mid-Atlantic region, La Salle sits in seventh, while Duquesne and Saint Joseph's are 13th and 14th, respectively. George Mason is the 14th ranked team in the Southeast region, while Fordham is 15th in the Northeast.
2014 A-10 Championship Recap
Buoyed by experience in its first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship, the Wildcats used a strong showing to earn a fifth-place finish, out of 14 teams.
Current senior Daniel Samet missed finishing in the top-10 last year by 0.3 seconds to claim 12th. Samet earned all-conference honors after the race. Walker Mogen placed 28th overall, while Ryan Phillips crossed the line 34th place.
Coach Waldron on A-10 Championship
"We are in a good place heading into the A-10 Championship. We always aim to be the best team we've been all season when it comes to be championship time, and we certainly feel that is true, especially because we are the healthiest we've been all season. The guys have a lot of confidence and trust in each other, and we feel that we're ready to put it together."
Looking Ahead
Davidson will travel to Charlottesville, Va., to compete at the 2015 NCAA Regional Meet Friday, Nov. 13. The meet, hosted by Virginia, will be held at Panorama Farms.
