Blasey Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Mike Blasey of the Davidson men's golf team has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for events played Oct. 7-14, as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.
"I am proud of Mike and his play at Berkely Hills," said head coach Tim Straub. "He played very well and improved each round. He has been working very hard and is off to a very good start to his college career."
After opening with a 75, Blasey carded consecutive rounds of par or better at the AutoTraders.com Collegiate Classic to finish tied for 23rd out of 88 competitors. Blasey, from Potomac, Md., fired a personal-best even-par 72 in round 2, before bettering that with a two-under 70 in the final round.
In addition to finishing the two-day / 54-hole event at one-over 217, Blasey recorded 12 birdies in just his second collegiate event.
Blasey, one of four freshmen on this year's squad, leads the team with a 73.4 stroke average.
