DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson field hockey team will continue nonconference play with a midweek contest at No. 18 James Madison, Tuesday Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.
About Davidson (7-6, 4-1 Atlantic 10)
The Wildcats enter the midweek contest winners of four of their last six contests, scoring an average of 1.67 goals per game over that stretch, while limiting their opponents to just 0.67 goals per game. The senior forwards has been superb for Davidson, accumulating 16 goals and seven assists for 35 points between the trio of Anna Davis, Melissa Funsten and Lucy Pidcock.
Davis leads the team with 16 points on six goals and four assists, while Funsten isn't far between with 14 points on six goals and two helpers. Becca Jones and Paige Albert have also played important roles in the attack, as has Anne Federico, who has found the back of the cage in two of the last three games.
Last Time Out
Davidson split a pair of contests last weekend, posting a dominating, 4-0, win against Saint Louis before falling in a tough, 2-0, battle at Appalachian State. Anna Davis netted a pair of goals and sophomore Hannah Fisher racked up two assists to power the Wildcats past Atlantic 10 rival Saint Louis. The shutout is the fifth of the season for Davidson.
Defending the Cage
Senior Emily Leytham has enjoyed an impressive final season for Davidson, posting 59 saves in 13 games. The Charlottesville, Va., native allows just 1.67 goals per game and saves over 78-percent of the shots headed her way.
A look at James Madison (10-3, 4-0 CAA)
James Madison, the 18th ranked team in the nation, is riding a four-game win streak, carries a 10-3 overall mark and an unbeaten record in Colonial Athletics Association play. Two of James Madison's three losses have come at the hands of top-15 opponents, including a 5-0 loss to then-No. 9 Louisville. The Dukes have also posted wins over then-No. 17 Iowa, 4-1, and an overtime victory at then-No. 13 Delaware.
James Madison is led on offense by Loes Stijntjes, Taylor West and Melissa Wilkens. Stijntjes has a team-best 23 points on nine goals and five assists, while West has chipped in a team-high 10 goal and two assists. Wilkens, a rookie, has 21 points this season, with a team-best seven assists.
James Madison has stepped up defensively as well, limiting its opponents to just 100 total shots (11.5 per contest). The defense plays in front of Sara Kraeutler, who has played every minute in between the pipes for James Madison. Kraeutler has made 70 saves to her 25 goals allowed.
