Davidson Drops Road Contest at App State

BOONE, N.C. – The Davidson field hockey team dropped a nonconference contest as it fell to Appalachian State, 2-0, Sunday at Adcock Field. The Wildcats fall to 7-6, while Appalachian State improves to 4-8 on the season.
Appalachian State used two second-half goals en route to victory. Taylor Cimbalist put the Mountaineers up 1-0 at the 56-minute mark, before Micaeela Diedericks increased the host's lead to two six minutes later.
The first half progressed slowly as both sides struggled to capitalize on its opportunities. Appalachian State held the advantage in shots, 7-5, and in penalty corners, 6-5, through the first 35 minutes.
The Wildcats performance improved in the second half, but they could not find the back of the cage. Davidson took five shots and gained five corners, while slowing the Mountaineers to five shots and three corners in the stanza.
Emily Leytham led the Davidson defense with eight saves.
Becca Jones led the team with two shots.
Davidson is back in action Friday, Oct. 16 as the Wildcats welcome A-10 rival Richmond to Belk Turf Field. The game is set for 5:30 p.m.
