Samet Leads Davidson to First Place Finish at Eye Opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Paced by junior Daniel Samet, the Davidson men's cross country team placed first overall at the Eye Opener with an average time of 26:20.92.

"It was a great start to the season!" said Jen Straub, Director of Cross Country and Track & Field. "We will definitely build on this moving forward as the competition gets stronger."

Samet Crossed in 26:20.92 to place first out of 133 runners, while sophomore Walker Mogen (26:27.03) and Ryan Phillips (26:26.70) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Senior Sal Del Giudice posted a time of 26:37.32 to come in sixth and round out the Wildcats' top-10 finishers.

Junior Aaron Forburger finished in 27:34. 07 to rank 11th, junior Wesley Laytham crossed the line in 27:44.38 to come in 14th place and junior Patrick Rollo posted a time of 27:53.49 to finish in 16th place.

Davidson will be back in action on Sept. 12 at the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn.
