Eckstein and Blasey Lead Golf to Fifth Place Finish

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Seniors Todd Eckstein and Ralph Blasey posted Top-20 finishes to lead Davidson to a fifth place showing at the Fighting Irish Classic hosted by Notre Dame Tuesday.
The Wildcats finished the 54-hole event at 882 (300-285-297), just two strokes out of fourth and five behind runner-up Ball State. Michigan State, which finished second a year ago, claimed the team title by 14 strokes, to become the first three-time champion.
Eckstein (73-74-75 = 222) and Blasey (80-70-72 = 222) came home tied for 17th, while teammates David Sargent (75-76-74 = 225) and Spencer Papciak (72-77-76 = 225) also recorded their lowest finishes of the season, tying for 25th.
Andy Simmons (232/T-41) and Alex Nianouris (239/T-48) also competed for Davidson.
Ball State's Clouser McCormick (66-72-71 = 209) led wire-to-wire capturing the individual crown by two shots over Cory Sciupider (Notre Dame).
The three-day tournament was played on both the Warren Golf Course (Par 71, 7,023 yards) and Lost Dunes Golf Club (Par 71, 6,905 yards) layouts.
The Wildcats will continue their fall slate on the Auto Trader Collegiate Classic hosted by Georgia State Oct. 13-14.
