English Scores as Davidson Falls to La Salle, 2-1
9/19/2014 4:15:00 PM | Field Hockey
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Sophomore Katherine English gave the Davidson field hockey team a second life with a goal late in the second half, but La Salle's two-goal lead was too much for the Wildcats to overcome as they dropped their first Atlantic 10 contest, 2-1, to the Explorers.
La Salle, which outshot Davidson 17-13 on the day, scored first just over
15 minutes into the game. Devin Las Muracco corralled a rebound and snuck it past Emily Leytham to take a one-goal lead.
The Explorers maintained momentum in the second half, padding its lead in the 46th minute. Las Muracco chipped the ball from the top of the circle to Kendall Las Kreider, who controlled the pass and fired a shot into the back of the net.
Davidson got on the board with just 1:32 remaining in the game when the 'Cats converted on their ninth penalty corner of the day. Hannah Fisher inserted the ball to the top of the circle, where English fired a shot past Rachel Hartman to cut the Wildcats' deficit to one.
Davidson and La Salle each had nine penalty corners, while Leytham finished with 11 saves in net.
The Wildcats return to action Sunday for a non-conference bout against Monmouth at noon.
