CFPA Performers of the Week
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson junior William Morris was one of five FCS Wide Receiver Performer of the Week honorable mentions recognized by the College Football Performance Awards for games played through Sept. 13, CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith announced Tuesday morning.
In a loss at VMI Saturday, Morris caught a career-high 16 passes, one shy of the Davidson single-game record, for a career-high 208 yards - the fifth-most in a single-game for Davidson. He also had one touchdown reception.
Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. It is the Dallas, Texas, native's second CFPA honorable mention of his career, as he was honored last season after racking up 188 yards against Johnson C. Smith.
Morris, who was named to the CFPA Wide Receiver Award Watch List at wide receiver prior to the season, is off to a strong start, as he leads the PFL in receiving touchdowns (2) and receiving yards (290), ranking ninth in the nation in the latter. His 7.7 receptions per game rank fourth nationally and second in the PFL.
The Wildcats (1-2) will open their Pioneer Football League slate Saturday, hosting Morehead State (1-2) at 1 p.m. at Richardson Stadium. Click here for tickets.
