Davidson Finishes Fourth at Commodore Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Davidson men's cross country team placed fourth out of 15 teams at the Commodore Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University, Saturday afternoon.
"We ran a great race against a very competitive field," said associate head coach Renny Waldron. "The team ran very well up front and moved up throughout the race. We're where we need to be at this point in the season, and we're looking forward to progressing in the coming weeks."
Junior Ryan Phillips finished the 8km course in 25:18.18 to finish 16th out of 242 runners, while classmate Daniel Samet crossed the line in 25:24.66, good for a 23rd place finish.
Senior captain Whitner Chase posted a 25:30.91 to place 26th, while Walker Mogen claimed 38th with a time of 25:41.27. Rounding out Davidson's top five was senior Sal Del Giudice, crossing the line in 53rd place with a 25:41.27.
"The men ran a very poised and strong race," added Director of track and field and cross country Jen Straub. "They are gaining momentum for the A-10, and it's going to be exciting to see how we do in the conference."
The 'Cats return to the trails Oct. 4-5 at the Paul Shorts Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
