DAVIDSON, N.C. — For the third year in a row, the Davidson women's lacrosse team placed at least two players on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll with the senior duo of Paige Logan and Carlee Simon each being honored, as announced recently by the IWLCA.
Logan and Simon, who were named to the honor roll last year as well, were part of 238 student-athletes from 80 different institutions with inclusion in the 2014 IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll. All student-athletes were nominated by their schools and have achieved at least junior status academically and had a cumulative academic GPA or 3.50 or greater.
The Wildcats' top defender and one of the best in the Big South a year ago, Logan had an outstanding four-year career. She capped her senior year off by being named to the All-Big South First Team, the league's all-academic team and earning the team's MVP award. Logan helped Davidson reach the conference championship game for the second year in a row and was named to the all-tournament team.
A Big South Defender of the Week honoree, March 24, the senior defender was one of six Wildcats to start all 19 games and ended her career starting all 73 games she played in. Logan paced the team this past Spring with 40 groundballs and 17 caused turnovers, while picking up 21 draw controls, third-most on the team. She was part of a Davidson defense that was second in the Big South with a 9.16 goals against average and 31st in the nation.
Logan concluded her career ranking in the Wildcat record books' top-10 in groundballs (131, 7th), draw controls (87, 7th) and caused turnovers (56, 7th). In addition, the senior scored 31 goals, assisted on another 15 for 46 total points.
Simon battled through injuries her four years, but saw action in 11 games and started four of them. She was a key leader her senior campaign, helping the first-year players adjust to the collegiate level.
It was a very successful season for Davidson in 2014. After matching the school-record for wins in 2013, the Wildcats set a new mark this past year by going 12-7 overall behind the strength of a school-best nine-game win streak. They also finished second in their final season in the Big South with a 6-1 mark and made an appearance in the Big South Championship game for the second year in a row. Last year's successful campaign also saw head coach Kim Wayne become the program's all-time winningest coach with 52 career victories.
Davidson, which as a team was recently named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Squad, moves to the Atlantic 10 for the 2014-15 season.
