DAVIDSON, N.C. – Catherine Ostoich and Kristen O'Rourke will join the Davidson field hockey staff, head coach Ginny Turner announced Friday.
Ostoich joins the Wildcats as an assistant coach, while O'Rourke will serve as the goalkeeper coach/technical coordinator.
"I am thrilled to welcome Catherine to our coaching staff and Davidson College," Turner said. "Catherine had an outstanding college career at Richmond and brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to our program. She is driven and outgoing, which will add a lot of energy to our team on and off the field. Her experience as a student-athlete in the Atlantic 10 will be extremely beneficial as we embark on our inaugural year in the conference."
Ostoich, a standout field hockey player at the University of Richmond, comes to Davidson after most recently serving as the head coach at Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pa.
Ostoich was a four-year starter for the Spiders and helped the team to Atlantic 10 Championships and NCAA appearances in 2009 and 2011. As a freshman, she earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie honors and was a part of a defensive unit that tied for third in school history for most shutouts (8) and ranked 17th in the nation in goals against average (1.62). Ostoich was named the team captain as a senior.
Aside from her success on the field, Ostoich has a wealth of coaching experience. While at Lower Merion, Ostoich also served as an in-house and travel coach for Filia Field Hockey and Lacrosse where she worked to educate young players about the rules while improving their stick skills. In addition, she worked with the Vipers Club Team at the U14, U16 and U19 teams.Ostoich graduated from Richmond in 2013 with a bachelors of science in business administration with a concentration in marketing.
O'Rourke comes to Davidson after spending four seasons at the University of Richmond as an assistant coach/goalkeeper specialist.
"We are very fortunate to have KO join our staff this season," said Turner. "She has a tremendous amount of coaching experience from her time at Richmond, various clubs and her own goalkeeping camps/clinics. She will be a huge asset not only to our GK's, but our defense in general."
At Richmond, she worked directly with the goalkeepers and defense while also putting together scouting reports, organizing team travel and recruiting efforts. The Williamsburg, Va., native helped the Spiders to Atlantic 10 Championships and NCAA appearances in 2009 and 2011.
Under her guidance, the defense was continually tops in the nation. Most recently in 2013, the staff was ranked first in the country in save percentage and No. 2 in goals against average as Richmond's Anna Zarkoski was tabbed an First Team All-American in net.
Additionally, O'Rourke founded Next Level By KO in 2012, a company dedicated to providing premier field hockey goalkeeping training. As the director, O'Rourke is responsible for organizing and operating clinics.
O'Rourke graduated from James Madison with a bachelor of science in Kinesiology with a concentration in sports management and a minor in business, was a goalkeeper, and helped the Dukes to three consecutive CAA Championships and NCAA appearances.
