DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson College's head athletic trainer Beth Hayford announced today the hiring of Greg Honeychuck as the Wildcats' new head strength and conditioning coach. In addition, Zach Rowell was promoted to assistant strength and conditioning coach.
Honeychuck takes over the strength and conditioning program after being the associate director of the strength program at South Florida. He coordinated and directed strength and conditioning programs for USF's football summer training, while also assisting the program during the regular season. Honeychuck also coordinated and worked with baseball and volleyball.
Before working at South Florida, Honeychuck was a graduate assistant and then moved into an assistant strength and conditioning coaching position with the East Carolina Pirates, where he was the coordinator for women's volleyball, and assisted with football and baseball.
Honeychuck received his bachelor's degree in 2008 in health science with a minor in coaching from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. He went on to earn a master's degree in exercise physiology from East Carolina University in 2010. He also completed internships during his undergrad years at Binghamton University and Penn State University.
Honeychuck is certified from the NSCA-CSCS, CSCCa-SCCC as well as having his Under Armour Combine 360 certification.
Rowell joined Davidson in the Fall of 2013, working directly with baseball, wrestling, golf, men's and women's soccer, and both men's and women's swimming and diving teams.
Prior to joining the Wildcat strength and conditioning staff, he was an intern at Winthrop from February to August in 2013 and Virginia Tech from August 2011 to August 2012. While at Winthrop, Rowell assisted the strength and conditioning staff with implementing workouts for men's and women's soccer, wen's and women's basketball, softball, lacrosse, throwers, and baseball.
During his year-long stay at Virginia Tech, Rowell assisted the football strength and conditioning staff with program implementation, and insured the safety and proper lifting techniques of athletes.
Rowell got started as a strength and conditioning coach as an intern, and eventually a graduate assistant, at UNC Pembroke in Pembroke, N.C. There, he worked with multiple sports working on year-round training programs, and speed training and conditioning.
A 2011 graduate of UNC Pembroke, Rowell earned his master's in physical education with a concentration in exercise and sports administration. He finished his undergrad degree from Pembroke in 2009, earning a bachelor of science in biology.
Rowell has certifications with the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, National Strength (CSCCa) and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the United States Weightlifting (USAW).
