DAVIDSON, N.C. — For the second year in a row, Davidson sophomore Emma Sissman of the women's lacrosse team was named to Jewish Sports Review Women's College All-America Lacrosse Team for 2014 in the July/August edition of the Jewish Sports Review.
Sissman, who was one of only two sophomores on the 12-member team, was one of the Wildcats' top players. She earned All-Big South First Team honors after scoring a career-high 50 goals, good for third-most in a Wildcat single season and third-best on the year in the league. The midfielder tied the school's single-game record with eight goals in a win at Presbyterian, April 13. Overall, Sissman registered 13 multi-goal games to push her career total to 22. Twice she scored five goals in a game, including leading Davidson to a quarterfinal win over Liberty in the Big South Tournament. On the season, the midfielder led the Big South with five game-winning goals.
The midfielder also helped Davidson handle the draw control all year, pulling in a Wildcat single-season record 75 after recording 64 during her freshman season. With her 139 total draw controls in two years, Sissman holds the all-time record for draw controls. She pulled in a career-high 11 at home vs. Liberty in the 'Cats' quarterfinal win.
Sissman started all 19 games in helping Davidson to its best season in program history. The 'Cats went a school-best 12-7 and for the second year in a row advanced to the Big South Championship game. On their way to the 12 wins, Davidson rattled off a program-best nine-game win streak. During the streak, Sissman scored a team-high 30 goals, and pulled in 29 draw controls. Also on the season, the rising junior finished with career highs of 18 groundballs and 10 caused turnovers.
Other Wildcats to earn Jewish All-America honors recently are Charlie Reiter (2009, men's soccer) and Jake Cohen (2011, men's basketball).
Davidson begins a new era in 2014-15 as it moves to the Atlantic 10 after a two-year stay in the Big South.
