DAVIDSON, N.C. – Head women's track & field coach Jen Straub recently announced her postseason award winners, honoring six Wildcats for their performances during the 2013-14 season.
Erin Osment earned MVP honors for the 2013 cross country season. The junior from Atlanta, Ga., paced the team throughout the season and earned all-conference honors with a 14th-place finish at the 2013 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships. Osment went on to finish in the top 100 at the 2013 NCAA Division I Southeast Region Cross Country Championships.
Also earning accolades for the cross country season was Hayden Bates, who was honored with the Most Improved award. A freshman from Cashiers, N.C., Bates ran a season-best 5k time of 19:11.00 at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational and took 52nd at the SoCon Championships. Ali Cobb was the team's Coaches Award winner for persevering through the season.
"Ali definitely faced some adversity this season," said Straub. "But she certainly didn't let that get her down and came right back to compete. I was so impressed by her tenacity and commitment to her team and her teammates."
Osment and Sarah Paddon were named Co-MVPS for the 2013-14 track and field season. The duo combined for seven program records this season alone, finishing off the season with impressive efforts at the 2014 SoCon Track & Field Championships. Osment kicked things off with a runner-up finish in the 3,000m to start the meet, while Paddon earned the title in the 1,500m even the following day. Paddon is presently in position to earn an NCAA East Regional berth in the 1,500m.
Pole vaulter Molly Marshall was the MVP of the field events after another strong campaign. Marshall continuously bested herself all season, setting a school record at the High Point Vertklasse Meeting after clearing 3.57 meters. Her second-best mark of the season came at the SoCon Outdoor Championships, where she placed 12th. Freshman Hannah Rieden earned Most Improved accolades, shaving three seconds from her time in the 800-meter run to earn a top-10 finish (eighth) at the SoCon Outdoor meet. She also helped the 4x400-meter relay set new program marks in at both the indoor and outdoor championships.
A handful of Wildcats will continue this season Friday evening at the WolfPack Last Chance meet in Raleigh.
