DAVIDSON, N.C.  â€”  In a battle between cross-county rivals Charlotte and Davidson, the 49ers got the best of the matchup by downing the Wildcats 7-0 on their home court Thursday afternoon in non-conference men's tennis action.

Davidson (5-14) fell to 11-14 since 1988 in the series vs. Charlotte, which moved to 10-5 on the season.

The match started off with three tightly played doubles matches. The 49ers captured two of the matches by the score of 8-6 to earn the doubles point. The pair of Ricky Saad and Alex Howard won their second in a row, winning 8-4 at No. 3 to earn the Wildcats' lone win on the afternoon.

Charlotte went on to sweep the Wildcats at all six singles positions in straight sets. Freshman J.B. Gough saw his three-match win streak come to an end with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat at No. 4.

Evan Watkins went to a second-set tie-breaker after falling 6-3 in the first set at No. 5. His day ended though with a 7-3 defeat in the tie-breaker.

Davidson takes to the road for the weekend, returning to SoCon play with a trip to UNCG Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
