DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's lacrosse team begins their quest for a Big South Tournament title when they play host to Liberty in a quarterfinal game Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. at Richardson Stadium.
The Wildcats are winners of nine of their last 10 games, including rattling off a school-record nine-game win streak from March 22 to April 25. They also had a 13-game Big South win streak that spanned to last year, which was snapped in their regular-season finale at High Point.
The Opening Draw Control
Davidson (10-6, 6-1 Big South) earned the second seed and will host the quarterfinals by welcoming seventh-seeded Liberty (2-15, 1-6 Big South) at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The 'Cats went 5-2 on their home field, closing the season on a five-game win streak.
Big South Tournament
This is Davidson's second year, and final year, in the recently formed Big South Conference. The Wildcats won the inaugural regular season title last year, but fell in the championship game to High Point. The 'Cats move to the Atlantic 10 next year.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
Wednesday's contest vs. Liberty will be the eighth meeting, with the Wildcats holding a perfect 7-0 record since first facing the Flames in 2010. Davidson scored a 16-3 Senior Day victory during the regular season this year. The 'Cats used a 12-1 run over the last 35 minutes of the game to seal up their eighth straight win. Ann Fucigna (5), Emma Sissman (3) and Emily Rademacher (3) combined for 11 of the 16 goals.
This will be the second year in a row that both teams will meet in the Big South Tournament. Davidson capturing a 17-8 win in the semifinals last year. Prior to that, the two schools met once in the National Lacrosse Conference tournament, with the 'Cats winning 11-6 in 2011.

Record Watch: Career Assist Record Falls, Other Records Insight
The junior Emily Cooke broke yet another record this year, after setting a pair of single-season marks a season ago in points (87) and assists (55). She set the program's all-time assists mark, March 22, in Davidson's home win vs. Elon. The attacker dished out a pair of assists to give her 15 on the year and a new Wildcat record of 78 for her career. She passed Linda Rothmund's mark of 77 set from 1996-99.
Cooke' team-leading 37 assists rank second in the Big South and gives her an even 100 for her career. She is second on the team with 45 points behind Emma Sissman's 44 (team and career-high 43 on goals) and Ann Fucigna's 55 (34 goals, 21 assists).
Senior Ann Fucigna continued to push her program-best of all-time marks in points and goals to 252 and 187, respectively. She also is third all-time with 65 assists. Senior Erin Doherty holds the school career mark for draw controls with 135, with Emma Sissman right behind her with 120 in just two seasons. Others closing in on records: Emily Rademacher is eight draw controls away from matching the single-season record of 69 set by Doherty in 2012, while Sissman is 10 goals away from Fucigna's single-season record of 53 set in 2013.
Weekly Honors
Freshman Katherine Rueger won the Wildcats' first Big South weekly award, taking home the Crons Brand Rookie of the Week, March 10. Senior tri-captain Paige Logan won the 'Cats' second weekly award a few weeks later, earning the Big South Defensive Player of the Week, March 24. Taking home her third career Big South weekly award was Ann Fucigna as she collected the Wildcats' first Big South Offensive Player of the Week, March 31. Davidson captured its fourth and fifth weekly awards by taking a pair on April 15 as Emma Sissman was the Offensive Player of the Week and Rueger grabbed her second rookie of the week honor.
National Rankings- Top-35
As of April 28, the Wildcats rank in the NCAA top-35 as a team in: draw controls per game (28th, 13), Points (33rd, 266), scoring defense (29th, 9.06 goals per game given up), scoring margin (34th, 2.19) and winning percentage (28th, .625). Individually, those ranking in the top-35 are: Emily Cooke (37 assists- 7th & 2.31 assists per game- 7th), Emily Rademacher (3.81 draw controls per game- 33rd) and Emma Sissman (43 goals- 35th & 2.69 goals per game-35th).
Nine Wins in a Row Sets New School Record
After suffering a tough 8-6 defeat to Villanova at home, March 16, Davidson was on the winning side for its next nine games in a row to set a school record, topping last year's seven-game win streak. Three of those wins have come down to the wire at home, with the 'Cats netting a 10-9 win vs. Old Dominion, a 9-8 overtime thriller vs. Winthrop and then last Friday, April 8, a 10-9 win against Coastal Carolina. Davidson also had to come back from a two-goal halftime deficit at Longwood to push the streak to nine straight.
During the streak, which ended at High Point to close out the regular season, the 'Cats outscored their opponents 120-64. They collected five of the wins at home and four of the nine overall wins were decided by three goals or less. Leading the way individually was Ann Fucigna and Emma Sissman on offense. Fucigna had a team-best 43 points on 27 golas and 16 assists, while Sissman netted a team-high 30 goals. Defensively, goalie Katy Boyle had a 7.16 goals against average with 49 saves, while defender Paige Logan tallied 19 groundballs, 17 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers. Emily Rademacher had a team-high 43 draw controls to go with 19 goals and seven assists.
Welcome to the 50-Win Club
Head coach Kim Wayne, who earlier this year became the program's winningest coach, won her 50th game when she guided the Wildcats to a 13-9 road win at Longwood, April 25. A few games prior, Wayne had surpassed Mary Schwartz, who collected 46 wins in eight years during 1996-2003.
Rueger Named Big South Freshman of the Year, Six 'Cats Earn All-Conference Honors
Freshman Katherine Rueger was awarded for her solid regular season by being named one of five Big South award winners, garnering freshman of the year honors with the release of the league's all-conference teams as announced by the Big South office Monday, April 28.
Rueger was one of six Wildcats to earn all-league honors as she was also named to the Big South Second Team at the midfielder spot, joining attacker Ann Fucigna and Emily Cooke, who was one of three alternates on the team. Earning a spot on the first team was attacker Emma Sissman, midfielder Emily Rademacher – her second straight year on the team – and defender Paige Logan, who was also named to the Big South All-Academic Team.

DAVIDSON —The Davidson women's lacrosse team saw their school-record nine-game win streak come to an end when High Point used a 9-0 run to break up a tie and went on to earn a 15-8 decision in both teams' regular-season finale last Sunday.
Davidson also saw its 13-game Big South win streak come to an end after going 7-0 a year ago and winning its first six league games this year.
The two teams played to an even 5-5 draw with over 15 minutes run off the clock in the first half. Emma Sissman netted three of those goals for Davidson, while Ann Fucigna had a goal and three assists, including one on Mary Leonard's score that gave the 'Cats a 5-4 lead.
It was short-lived as Kendyl Gardner tied it up two minutes later and the Panther run became. It spanned all the way to the 16:33 mark in the second half to give High Point a commanding 14-5 advantage and eventually the win.
Sissman lead Davidson with three goals, but was held scoreless after her final score 10 minutes into the first half. Fucigna, the 'Cats' leading points holder coming into the game, was also held scoreless the rest of the way after her assist to Leonard in the first half to finish with four points.
Leonard scored twice off the bench, Emily Cooke had two assists, and Erin Doherty, who stopped the HPU run with a goal at the 15:34 mark in the second half, and Katherine Rueger scored a goal apiece.
Both teams had an even 12 draw controls, with Emily Rademacher and Holly Thomas (career-high) pulling in five apiece.
Last Time Out ...
... LIBERTY — Trailing by five with just under 20 minutes remaining in the game, the Liberty lacrosse team made a valiant comeback attempt, but came up just one goal short to the Longwood Lancers, 12-11, on Sunday afternoon at Liberty Lacrosse Field.
The Longwood Lancers used a 4-0 run early to take a 4-1 advantage with 19:24 on the clock. Longwood then used its second 4-0 run of the contest to increase its advantage to 9-4 with 10:03 elapsed in the final period.
The Lady Flames began to claw their way back into the game on a free-position goal by Morgan Becker at the 18:45 mark in the second half. After Sarah Butler scored her third goal of the game for the Lancers, Becker continued to ignite the Liberty offense, scoring two more markers to trim the deficit to three, at 10-7.
Liberty continued to battle as Becker tallied her fourth score of the game and 25th of the season with 6:09 showing on the game clock. Dunay followed with her record-setting 99th career goal at 5:37. Michaela Rich delivered her second assist of the contest on the play, trimming the Longwood advantage to 11-9. Kacey Norwood scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for Longwood with 4:25 remaining in the match.
Trailing 12-11 with under two minutes until the final horn, Liberty forced a Longwood turnover and recorded two more shots in the game, but couldn't tally the equalizer as the Lancers held on for the victory.
In between the pipes, Kristen Masullo notched nine saves for the Lady Flames.
