Osment Sets 3k Record at Carolinas Cup

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Continuing on with the record-breaking streak, Erin Osment set a new Davidson mark in the 3,000-meter run as the Wildcat women's track & field team competed in the Carolinas Cup meet at Winthrop on Thursday evening.
Osment shaved ten seconds off the previous program record of 10:09.22 to win the event in a time of 9:59.91 to lead the 'Cats, who finished sixth at the meet (38 points). Appalachian State was the top squad with 141 points.
Joining Osment in the 3,000m were Hayden Bates and Ali Cobb. Bates crossed the line sixth in 10:31.08, with Cobb claiming eighth place in 10:33.00. Both ran personal bests in the event.
Providing a one-two punch in the 1,500-meter run were Brigid Behrens and Olivia Menden, both of whom also posted career-bests. Behrens won the event in a time of 4:42.75, with Menden a close second at 4:44.32. Maggie Rickard claimed 11th race in a time of 5:05.54.
A trio of 'Cats competed in the 400-meter dash, led by Hannah Rieden's sixth-place finish. She crossed the line in 59.07 and was followed by Grace Watt, who grabbed seventh place in 59.84. Sarah Paddon was ninth, running a 1:00.77.
Ashlyn Gruber posted a personal best in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 2:15.93 for fourth place. Menden was ninth in the event, running a time of 2:21.42.
Kate Kostecky took sixth in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in a time of 1:07.21. Morgan McGrath was Davidson's lone participant in the 200-meter dash, taking 15th in a time of 28.65.
Watt, Behrens, Paddon and Rieden team for the 4 x 400-meter relay. The quartet took second in the event, combining for a time of 3:56.56.
The Wildcats will take part in one final tune up meet before the SoCon Championships, running in the Charlotte Invitational April 18 at cross-county rival UNC Charlotte.
