SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sixteen Wildcats were honored as members of the 2013-14 Academic All-Southern Conference Team for the winter season, as the league office acknowledged a total of 159 student-athletes Tuesday.
To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must produce a 3.3 cumulative GPA or higher entering the winter season and must compete in 50 percent of their respective program's competitions. In addition, student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
All 11 SoCon institutions were represented on the latest edition of the academic all-conference team, which was comprised of student-athletes in the sports of men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track and field, and wrestling.
Nine student-athletes have maintained perfect 4.0 grade point averages, including Davidson runner James Durling. That mark ranks second in league history to the 2012-13 total of 11 perfect GPAs.
The league's 11 women's indoor track & field programs provided the highest number of academic all-conference honorees with 78, followed by the nine men's indoor track & field programs with 38 selections. The conference's 10 women's basketball teams boasted 30 honorees.
