'Cats Conclude 16-Game Homestand Tuesday

- Davidson completes a 16-game homestand Tuesday, hosting Winthrop in the first game of a home-and-home series with the Big South conference foe. Davidson will play at Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. on Tuesday, April 29. The Wildcats are 16-5 at Wilson Field this season, winning 14 of their last 16 home games.
-It will be another battle between the Daniels brothers. David is a junior for Davidson, while Leighton is a senior at Winthrop. Both attended East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte.
- Davidson has won 14 out of its last 17 games overall and, at 16-8, is off to its best start through 24 games since doing the same in 1987. That team improved to 17-8.
- Davidson batters boast three of the Top-10 batting averages in the Southern Conference: 2. OF Forrest Brandt, .389; 7. SS Sam Foy, .366; and 9. DH Ryan Lowe, .345. They hold two of the top seven on-base percentages: 2. DH Ryan Lowe, .472 and 5. Brandt, .463. The 'Cats also hold two of the Top-5 slugging percentages: 4. OF Nathan Becker and .652; 5. - Ryan Lowe has reached base in all 24 games this season, and 27-straight dating back to last season. He has hits in his last seven-straight games. It's the longest reached base streak since Drew Gadaire reached in 27-straight across the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

STRONG RELIEF: Davidson's bullpen has been solid in the last five games, striking out 17 and allowing just four runs in 20 innings pitched for an ERA of 1.80.
CRIME STOPPERS: Davidson leads the SoCon in pickoffs (8) and caught stealing (17). Nation and conference-leading base stealers Wofford (3/21-23) went 0-for-3 in stolen base attempts against the 'Cats. Catcher Daniel Gerow is tied for the SoCon lead with nine caught stealings.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: Davidson enters the week ranking second in the nation with 2.46 doubles per game, and 15th with 59 total on the season. 3B David Daniels ranks second in the SoCon and 46th in the nation with 10 doubles this season.
POWER SURGE: As a team, Davidson entered the week ranking seventh in the nation and third in the conference with 25 home runs.
SAVERS: Four different pitchers have combined for nine saves in Davidson's 16 wins. Senior RHP Michael Goldberg has earned four of the last five opportunities. RHP Ryan Lowe went three innings against Wofford (3/23). RHP Matt Saeta is second with three saves, while freshman RHP Westin Whitmire earned one against North Carolina A&T (3/9).
FOUR FOR FORREST: Forrest Brandt had his fourth four-hit game of his career and the second this season against Georgia Southern (3/30). His other this season came against UMass (3/9).
SWEET 16: Sam Foy had a 16-game hitting streak from 3/1 to 3/28, during which he hit .449 with six doubles, three home runs and 14 RBIs. It was the longest hitting streak by a Wildcat since Zach Kayne had a 16-game streak in 2007.
WALK THIS WAY: Ryan Lowe tied a school record for walks in a game with four against Mount St. Mary's (2/23). Many have achieved the feat, but Lowe was the first to do it since Michael Zeblo '13 in 2012. He is among the conference leaders in the category with 20 bases on balls this season.
CLOSING ON A WINNING NOTE: Davidson's earned its first win over perennial SoCon power Georgia Southern since April 20, 2008, and won its first series over the Eagles since 1999. Both teams, which have met annually since 1993, are departing the Southern Conference after the 2014 season.
CONTAINED: Georgia Southern and Davidson entered their series ranking first and second in the Southern Conference, respectively, but combined for just three home runs during the weekend, with the Eagles only getting one.
