RALEIGH, N.C. – Despite poor weather conditions, the 4 x 800-meter relay squad smashed another program record for the Davidson women's track & field team at the annual Raleigh Relays at Derr Track at N.C. State University this weekend.
The foursome of Brigid Behrens, Sarah Paddon, Ashlyn Gruber and Grace Watt teamed to run a time of 9:06.35. The mark smashed the previous Davidson record of 9:36.60 by nearly 30 seconds, while Paddon ran her 800 split in a time that would surpass the program record of 2:13.17.
"I think we did really well this weekend, especially with the conditions being so abysmal," said head coach Jen Straub. "Sarah was sick all weekend, but both her and Erin (Osment) managed to put up some great performances in extremely competitive fields."
Hannah Rieden was 18th in the 800-meter run for the Wildcats, clocking in at 2:15.62. Paddon competed in the 1500-meter run, finishing 17th in a time of 4:31.13.
On Friday evening, Erin Osment competed in the 5,000-meter run, coming in seventh in her section of the event. She posted a time of 17:24.81, marking her best-ever outdoor time in the race. Michigan's Gina Sereno won the "C" section in a time of 17:06.04.
A number of Wildcats also competed in the Winthrop Invitational. Morgan McGrath took fifth in her heat of the 200-meter dash preliminaries, crossing the line in 29.96. She also finished fifth in her heat of the 400-meter prelims, clocking in at 1:04.62.
Also in Rock Hill, Hayden Bates and Ali Cobb took sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 1500-meter run. Bates posted a time of 5:04.52, while Cobb came in at 5:07.66. Jenny Fritz joined them, grabbing 12th place with a time of 5:13.97, while Maggie Rickard crossed the line 16th in 5:17.69. Lauren Carter rounded out the Wildcats in the event with a time of 5:28.63 for 22nd place.
In the 800-meter run, Olivia Menden picked up a top-10 finish for the 'Cats. She clocked in at 2:18.92 for eighth place overall. Rachel McKay took 22nd in a time of 2:31.76.
The Wildcats will travel to High Point, N.C., on April 4 for the annual High Point Vertklasse Meeting.
