Osment, Paddon Post Top-10 Finishes at SoCon Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sarah Paddon's and Erin Osment's top-10 finishes led the way for the Davidson women's track & field team, who competed in its last-ever Southern Conference Indoor Championships Sunday afternoon at the JDL Fast Track.
The Wildcats finished ninth with a total of 16 points. Western Carolina earned the 2014 title with 132 points, followed by runner-up Appalachian State with 120.5. Georgia Southern rounded out the top-3 with a score of 119.
Paddon set a new school record in the mile run, crossing the finish line in 5:01.73 in the finals. She took fourth place overall, scoring five points for the Wildcats. Brigid Behrens also ran the finals of her event – the 800-meter run. She took eighth place with a time of 2:19.97.
Also claiming a top-10 finish was Osment, who claimed seventh in the 5,000-meter run. She recorded a time of 17:29.23 and was joined in the event by Jenny Fritz, Ali Cobb and Lauren Carter. Fritz finished 19th in 19:14.37, followed by Cobb in 20th at 19:31.70. Carter ran a time of 20:22.86 for 24th place.
The 4x400-meter relay narrowly missed a new school record, running a time of 4:02.98. Ashlyn Gruber, Behrens, Hannah Rieden and Grace Watt combined for a sixth-place finish.
Molly Marshall was the 'Cats' lone competitor in the field events, taking part in the pole vault. She cleared a height of 3.32 meters for 14th place.
Davidson will open the outdoor season March 21 when they travel to cross-county rival Charlotte to compete in the 49er Classic.
