BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Kevin Birmingham and Nathaniel Powers continued their SoCon success but it wasn't enough for the Davidson wrestling team as the Wildcats fell to the Campbell Camels, 39-9, inside Gore Arena Saturday evening.Â
Â
The 'Cats got off to a rocky start after having to forfeit the 125-pound bout before falling in the next two. Birmingham then pinned Collin Munson at 141 for the second time this season, sending him to the mat in 1:37 to cut into the Camels' lead at 15-6. The pin was Birmingham's 13th of the season, putting him among the national leaders in that category. He has won nine of his last 10 bouts dating back to Dec. 7, including four straight in the SoCon.
Â
The Camels earned wins at 157 and 165 before Powers added to the 'Cats' tally. He edged Campbell's Cody Ryba in a 3-2 decision, rolling to his fourth consecutive victory and to a 3-1 SoCon mark.
Â
Campbell's Ville Heino earned a narrow 3-2 win over Scott Patrick, handing Patrick just his third loss of the season.
Â
Davidson will travel to Morgantown, W. Va., next week for a Feb. 7 dual at West Virginia. The match is set for 7 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum.
