Match Results vs. No. 28 Auburn
AUBURN, Ala. — Sophomore Alex Howard and freshman Jordan Hart scored singles wins for Davidson, but No. 28 Auburn proved too much in taking a 5-2 decision Saturday afternoon in men's tennis.

Davidson (0-4) was playing its third nationally-ranked opponent in the first four matches to open the season. Auburn improved to 5-1 on the year.

Howard won his first singles match of the 2014 campaign, going the full three sets at No. 6. The sophomore fell 6-3 in the first set, but regrouped and charged back with a 6-0 blanking in the second set and then rolled to a 6-3 final set win.

Hart took home his second singles win of the year with a two-set 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles.

The pair of Evan Watkins and Connor Evins held their own against their nationally-ranked singles opponents, scoring seven games each in two sets apiece. Watkins fell to No. 89 Dante Saleh at No. 2 by the score of 6-3, 6-4, while Evins dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to No. 89 Joseph Van Dooren.

Robert Lightbourn went the distance in his match at No. 1 before falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Auburn opened the match by earning the doubles point after victories at No. 1 (6-4) and No. 2 (6-2). The duo of Evins and Lightbourn were up 5-3 before the match was halted after the doubles point was decided.

Davidson will play a neutral site match in Auburn against Mercer tomorrow at 12 p.m.
