LOUISVILLE, KY. – The Davidson men's cross country team ran to an 18th-place finish at the NCAA Southeast Region Championship, hosted Friday afternoon by the University of Louisville at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park.
"This was a great day for Davidson cross country," said Jen Straub, director of cross country and track and field. "I'm really proud of how both our men and women competed."
As a team, the Wildcats took 18th out of 33 teams with an average time of 32:22.44 for 509 total points. Virginia won the meet, placing two runners in the Top-10, for 75 total points, while Furman claimed second with 79 points behind four Top-20 finishers.
Whitner Chase and Daniel Samet paced Davidson for much of the 10k men's race. Chase continued his successful campaign, finishing 82nd in a time of 31:57.1. Samet wasn't far behind as the junior crossed the line in 31:58.7 to take 83rd.
"The men ran well today, led by Chase," said associate head coach Renny Waldron. "For the seniors, it was their last cross country race in a Davidson uniform. We have been very fortunate to have them represent the Davidson community so well, both on the course and in the classroom. Our senior captains, Whitner and Sal del Giudice have done an amazing job of leading the team this season and I am sure they will continue to do so throughout the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons."
Walker Mogen was the next Wildcat runner off the course in 114th place, recording a time of 32:30.7. Ryan Phillips finished just two-tenths of a second after Mogen in 115th place, while senior Sal Del Giudice rounded out Davidson's lineup with a time of 32:54.8 to rank 136th.
