Complete Schedule
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Five tournaments, three tri-meets and seven duals highlight the regular season schedule for Davidson wrestling, announced by head coach Bobby Patnesky. The Wildcats hosts four dual meets in 2014-15, with three of them against nonconference opponents.
Davidson begins the year at the Maryland Duals, where the Wildcats will wrestle the host Terrapins, Alderson-Broadus and Johns Hopkins.
In their first home meet of the year, Davidson welcomes crosstown rival Belmont Abbey, Nov. 7. The 'Cats took eight of the 10 bouts to post a 31-6 victory over the Crusaders a season ago.
Davidson will then return to the Wolfpack Open at N.C. State, marking the fifth consecutive season the Wildcats have competed at the tournament. Kevin Birmingham led the charge in the event last season, wrestling to a second place overall finish in the 149-pound division.
Davidson finishes out the month with a home dual against Ohio Northern, Nov. 23.
The Wildcats will then hit the road with a trip to the Windy City Duals at Northwestern where Davidson will face Northwestern, Drexel and Princeton at the day-long event.
Davidson will continue its road swing with a trip to the second annual Grapple at the Garden in New York, N.Y., Dec. 21. The Wildcats will wrestle Bucknell and Rutgers at Madison Square Garden.
Closing out 2014, the team travels back to Evanston, Ill., to compete at the 52nd Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, Dec. 29-30.
Davidson takes on Anderson (Jan. 17) before returning home to open Southern Conference action with a tri-meet, in which the Wildcats will take on Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Virginia Military Institute (Jan. 23).
The 'Cats head back out on the road Jan. 30, with a meeting against Chattanooga, before hosting a tri-meet with Gardner Webb and American (Feb. 1), a meeting with Sacred Heart (Feb. 8) and a tri-meet with Campbell and Coker College (Feb. 15).
A trip to Citadel (Feb. 18) and a home showing against Appalachian State (Feb. 22) will cap off the squad's regular season.
The 2015 SoCon tournament will be held March 7-8 at Kimmel Arena on the campus of UNC Asheville. Davidson placed seventh at last year's tournament, as Scott Patrick claimed the SoCon title at 184 pounds and Birmingham fell in the finals at 149 pounds.
The season will come to a close March 20-21 at the 2014 NCAA Championships, being held this year at the Scottrade Center in Saint, Mo. A season ago, Patrick and Birmingham became the first Davidson duo to qualify for the NCAA tournament in the same season in nearly 50 years.
