CFPA Week 6 Winners | Vote for Dan Casey
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Davidson junior William Morris continues to establish himself as one of the top receivers in FCS, earning his second Wide Receiver Performer of the Week honorable mention of the season from the College Football Performance Awards, CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith announced Tuesday morning.
In a wild, Pioneer Football League-record, five-overtime loss to Dayton Saturday, Morris caught 15 passes for 158 yards and scored a school record-tying three receiving touchdowns. His first score gave Davidson a late lead in regulation, and his other two came in overtime.
Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Morris was one of six players in the FCS to receive an honorable mention at wide receiver, while Sacramento State's DeAndre Carter was named the Performer of the Week.
The Dallas, Texas, native is on track for his finest season of his career. Morris ranks second in the nation with 671 receiving yards, fourth with six touchdowns and fourth in receptions per game, while leading all three categories in the PFL. He also ranks 10th all-time at Davidson in career receiving yards with 1,873, and needs just 11 more to move into ninth, and 118 more to move into seventh.
The Wildcats (1-5, 0-2 PFL) will continue their PFL slate Saturday, traveling to Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa to face Drake (2-3, 1-1 PFL) at 2 p.m.
