BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Going up against 42 teams Saturday in the men's 8K gold race, the Davidson men's cross country team earned a 25th place finish at the 41st Annual Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University.
"Overall we ran well, and it was a great experience for us to go to a large, nationally competitive invitational," said associate head coach Renny Waldron.
Davidson used a pair of top-100 finishes to earn 25th overall as a team. Junior Ryan Phillips was the first through the finisher's shoot, taking 75th overall with a time of 24:59. Junior Whitner Chase wasn't far behind, crossing the line three seconds after Phillips to take 77th with a time of 25:01.
Sophomore John Mogen posted a time of 25:26 to take 119th, while senior Sal Del Giudice ran 25:48 to claim 177th place.
"Ryan Phillips, Whitner Chase and Walker Mogen ran very solid races. Daniel Samet wasn't his usual self due to missing a bit of training due to an injury, but he's on the road to recovery and will be back up there soon" said Waldron. "It was good to see how we match up against the A-10 schools that we'll face in our conference championships in four weeks."
Davidson will return to the trails Oct. 11 as the Wildcats compete at the Royals Cross Country Championships in Charlotte, N.C.
