Davidson Picked Sixth; Patrick Named All-Conference

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Scott Patrick was named to the Southern Conference Preseason All-Conference Team, while Davidson was picked to finish sixth out of eight teams, the conference office announced Thursday.
Davidson earned 17 total votes to rank sixth in the preseason coaches poll.
Patrick, the 2014 SoCon Wrestling Champion at 184 lbs., won nine of his last 12 matches to post a team-best 21-5 overall record with a 15-5 league mark. The Ellicott City, Md., native qualified for the NCAA Tournament where he went 0-2 as he fell to No. 8 TJ Dudley of Nebraska and Dominic Abounader of Michigan.
This is the second consecutive season Patrick has earned a spot on the preseason all-league squad.
Chattanooga, which has won nine of the last 10 league tournaments, was picked to win the league, claiming seven first-place votes and a total of 49 points. The Citadel was tabbed second with 40 total points. Appalachian State earned one first place vote with a total of 38 points to rank third.
Gardner-Webb was picked fourth (28 points), followed by SIUE (23) in fifth, one spot ahead of the Wildcats, who were given 17 points in the poll. VMI (13) and Campbell (12) rounded out the league in seventh and eight place respectively.
Davidson opens the 2014-15 campaign, Sunday, Nov. 2 at the Maryland Duals. The Wildcats are slated to wrestle Alderson-Brodus, Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland.
