AMHERST, Mass. – The Davidson field hockey team dropped an Atlantic 10 contest versus Massachusetts 4-0 at Garber Field Friday afternoon. The Wildcats fall to 2-13 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Davidson senior goaltender Emily Leytham finished with a career-high 13 saves on the afternoon.
Nicole Miller opened the scoring for UMass (7-8, 5-1 A-10) in the 17th minute, launching a shot to the far post past Emily Leytham for her fifth tally of the season. UMass cushioned its lead 11 minutes later, as the Minutewomen converted on a penalty corner when Hailey Cockrum's shot ricocheted off Leytham right to the stick of Melanie Kreusch who fired the rebound into the back of the cage.
Cockrum proceeded to carry the Minutewomen to a 3-0 lead just four minutes into the second half when the sophomore buried a penalty stroke.
Davidson's best scoring opportunity came just six minutes later, when the Wildcats drew a penalty corner. Hannah Fisher inserted the ball, and Katherine English sent a shot wide. Two minutes later, Becca Jones fired a shot on target, but Sam Carlino was there to keep the 'Cats off the board.
Lauren Allymohamed gave the Minutewomen their fourth score off a penatly corner with 15 minutes remaining in the game.
Davidson continues its road swing through New England as the Wildcats take on Vermont, Sunday, Oct. 19 at noon.
