DULUTH, Ga. – Due to heavy rains and a tornado watch being in place, the final round of the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic was cancelled, making Davidson's 36-hole placing of eighth final.
Monday, after carding an opening round 295, Davidson fired a season-low 281 (-7) in the afternoon, highlighted by four sub-par rounds to climb into the Top-10.
The event was played on the Par 72 Berkeley Hills Country Club layout.
As a team, the Wildcats finished in eighth place at even-par 576, just five swings out of the top five and 14 behind UNCG, won the team crown at 562.
David Sargent led three Davidson players in the Top-20, as the junior tied for 14th at one-under 143 (73-70). Seniors Todd Eckstein (73-71=144) and Ralph Blasey (75-69=144) finished one back of their teammate in a tie for 19th, while sophomore Andy Simmons posted a second-round 71 to move into a tie for 26th out of 75 competitors.
Also competing for the Wildcats were Spencer Papciak (83-72=155) and Alex Nianouris (76-73=149), who is playing as an individual.
Prior to Monday afternoon's season-low, Davidson's best team total of the 2014 fall was a 285 (+1) in round two of the Fighting Irish Classic.
The Spartans' Carter Jenkins was the individual medalist with a 36-hole total of 136 (-8). Liam Johnston (Chattanooga) and Taylor Coalson (UNCG) are two off the pace.
