Davidson Drops 3-0 Contest at Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Davidson field hockey team suffered a 3-0 setback at Longwood Monday afternoon. Davidson falls to 2-12 overall, while Longwood improves to 5-9 on the season.
Longwood pulled ahead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half with a goal from Hollie MacDonald. The junior launched a shot to the upper left corner of the cage past Davidson goalie Emily Leytham for her first goal of the season.
The Wildcats had two shots in the first 35 minutes, while Longwood fired five. The Lancers held a slim 1-0 advantage in penalty corners.
Longwood's Jennifer Burris proceeded to carry the Lancers to a 3-0 lead midway through the second half. The junior scored Longwood's next two goals, one after Jessica Diaz dished from the baseline, and another from the left side that was deflected in at the last minute.
The Lancers outshot Davidson, 17-6, on the afternoon while holding a 7-1 advantage in penalty corners. Emily Leytham stopped seven shots, while Longwood's Lauren Bernard had one save.
The Wildcats will step back into Atlantic 10 play with a trip to Massachusetts, Friday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m., before taking on Vermont, Sunday Oct. 19 at noon.
