CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior Whitner Chase led the way, as the Davidson men's cross country had a strong showing at the Royals XC Challenge at McAlpine Creek Park Saturday.
"Whitner Chase ran his best meet of the season," said associate head coach Renny Waldron. "Ryan Phillips and Walker Mogen ran great, as they have all season. Wesley Laytham ran really tough and stepped into the fifth man role for us, which kind of saved us in terms of the team score."
Chase moved away from the pack early en route to a fifth place finish with a time of 24:48.6. Phillips crossed the finish line in 25:12.2, and Mogen crossed the line 12 seconds later with a time of 25:25.8. Daniel Samet finished 10th with a time of 26:06.7.
Wesley Laytham ran 26:23.7, good for 14th, while Aaron Forburger (26:33.8) and Sal del Giudice (26:36.5) finished in 17th and 18th place respectively to round out the Wildcats' top-20 finishers.
"We will continue to progress and look to improve at our conference championships in three weeks," added Waldron.
Davidson will next compete at the Atlantic 10 Championship in Pittsburg, Pa., Nov. 1.
