
Wildcats Set to Host Vermont in Home Opener

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Friday will mark the first of just six home games for the Davidson field hockey team as they host the University of Vermont in a 6 p.m. tilt at Belk Turf Field.
SERIES HISTORY
It is the second ever meeting between the 'Cats and the Catamounts, with the lone prior meeting coming in 2006. UVM took that game in Burlington by a score of 3-0. The Catamounts enter the contest 0-2 after falling to No. 19 Boston College 10-1 and Rutgers 5-2.
ABOUT THE CATAMOUNTS
Colleen Slaughter enters the game as UVM's leading scorer with a pair of goals for four points off six shots. Ashley McDonald has also contributed a goal for two points. Stephanie Zygmunt has made 28 stops thus far with a save percentage of .651 and a GAA of 7.50.
MCFAYDEN, ENGLISH HONORED
The 2-0 opening weekend proved fruitful for the Wildcats as senior forward Tyler McFayden was named the NorPac East Player of the Week and freshman forward Katherine English earned Rookie of the Week honors. McFayden notched a pair of goals and a pair of assists on the weekend, while English scored in her career debut to help the 'Cats to a 6-0 rout of Georgetown.
ACCESS DENIED
The Wildcats opened the season with a 6-0 shutout win at Georgetown, Aug. 30. It marks the third consecutive season Davidson has shutout the Hoyas after defeating them 4-0 in 2012 and 2-0 in 2011. Georgetown last scored on the 'Cats in 2010 when Davidson earned a 2-1 victory in penalty strokes.
NEXT UP
Davidson will spend the next eight games on the road before returning home, Oct. 11. The 'Cats will head to Winston-Salem, N.C., Sept. 10, to face No. 18 Wake Forest at 6:30 p.m. They then head to Richmond, Va., to square off with the Richmond Spiders Sept. 14 at noon.
