Davidson Opens 2013-14 Season at Tar Heel Intercollegiate

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Coming off their most successful season in 40 years, the Davidson men's golf team will open the 2013-14 campaign this weekend at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate.
The 54-hole event will be played on the 7,242-yard, Par 72 UNC Finley Golf Course, which was designed by Tom Fazio and is rated one of the top courses in the state.
Boston College, Charlotte, Duke, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, NC State, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington and Virginia Commonwealth will also be participating in the event.
The Wildcats return four starters from last year's team that finished second at the 2013 Southern Conference Championship, just two strokes off the pace.
Among those returning include senior Richard Fountain, who a year ago earned his second NCAA Tournament at-large selection, while finishing with a 73.8 stroke average, eight sub-par rounds, three top-five finishes and six Top-10s.
Davidson also welcomes back 2013 all-conference performer Samuel Echikson and two-year starter Todd Eckstein, who earned SoCon all-tournament honors after finishing runner-up.
In addition to their showing at the conference championship, the Wildcats finished 2012-13 with two team titles, six top-five finishes and nine Top-10s.
