
Nianouris Advances to Finals of NC Amateur Match Play

RALEIGH, N.C. – Alex Nianouris of the Davidson men's golf team continued his impressive play as the rising sophomore advanced to the finals of the North Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship Saturday afternoon.
The 4th annual event is being played on the Par 71, 6,304-yard Carolina Country Club layout.
Nianouris, who qualified for the match play competition with a 36-hole total of nine-under in stroke play, will take on current Carolinas Amateur champion Carter Jenkins of Raleigh in Sunday's 18-hole final at 8 a.m.
A native of Salisbury, Nianouris defeated Blair Bowland of Burlington 2 and 1 in the morning quarterfinals before cruising past Pinecrest High School senior Joshua Stockwell by a 7 and 5 score in the semifinals.
"Today's matches were a lot of fun," said Nianouris. "My putter really pulled me through against two very deserving opponents who were playing great golf. Hopefully I can keep it rolling tomorrow. I'm just planning on playing my best and hopefully it's enough to win."

This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association which in its 104th year of serving amateur golf in the Carolinas.
