DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson closed out its two-game homestand to open the 2013 campaign by playing to a scoreless draw against visiting Coastal Carolina Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium in women's soccer.
The Wildcats (0-1-1) took a game-high 24 shots, putting nine of them on goal, but they were unable to punch one through. Becca Fisher again led the way with six shots, three on goal, while Sarah Tuggle fired off five shots.
Rachel Locke stopped five shots in goal, including one big one in the final 30 seconds of the second overtime. The Chanticleers got a shot in the box on the near post that Locke saved, but the ball went past the end line resulting in a corner kick for Coastal (1-0-1). The Chanticleers quickly lined up and got the kick off with the clocking running down, but Davidson's defense knocked the ball away to earn the draw.
Megan Spencer of Coastal Carolina finished with nine saves, while Brianna Panico had a team-high five shots on offense.
Davidson hits the road for the first time, going to the state of Florida for the FGCU tournament. It plays at Florida Gulf Coastal next weekend, Aug. 30-Sept. 1, opening against the host Eagles Friday and then taking on Florida Atlantic Sunday.
