DAVIDSON, N.C. – For the second year in a row, the Davidson Wildcat women's lacrosse team put at least two players on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll with Abigail Doelger, Paige Logan and Carlee Simon each being honored, as announced recently by the IWLCA.
The trio of Wildcats were part of 190 student-athletes from 68 different institutions to be named to the 2013 honor roll. Among the 190 student-athletes, 51 were members of teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament. Davidson was one of two Big South schools to place players on the honor roll.
For Doelger, it was her second time earning a spot on the honor roll after joining Erin Keitel on last year's list. The recently graduated senior was named to the 2013 Big South All-Academic Team in Davidson's first year in the newly formed league. She was also a two-time National Lacrosse All-Academic Team member in 2011 and 2012.
Doelger had a strong final season as a Wildcat, garnering Big South First Team honors as one of three defenders on the team. The West Hartford, Conn., native was also named to Big South All-Tournament Team after leading Davidson to the championship game. Doelger was named the team's MVP, while tallying 22 groundballs, 10 draw controls and a team-high 20 caused turnovers.
Simon and Logan are two of 18 letterwinners returning this year after helping guide the Wildcats to the Big South regular season title last year. They are two of six seniors leading the way on the 2014 squad. Simon, who battled injuries last year, has seen action in 11 games during her career and provided great leadership for the young players last season.
Logan, a two-time captain, was named to the All-Big South Second Team as part of the defense. One of the Wildcats' main defenders, Logan played in and started all 18 games last year. She has started all 54 of her career games.
The Garden City, N.Y., native led the team with a career-high 47 groundballs, third-most in a Wildcat single-season, in 2013. Logan added 29 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers, both second-most on the team and personal bests, while she also chipped in five goals and six assists for 11 points on offense.
Davidson finished with an 11-7 record in 2013 to tie the school mark set in 2008 for most wins in a season. On its way to the 11 wins, the Wildcats rattled off a program-best seven-game win streak and tied the 2008 record for most home wins in a season with eight.
