DAVIDSON, N.C. – Head coach Greg Ashton announced today the addition of Adam Denton to the women's soccer program as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2013 season.
Denton joins the Wildcats with a deep background in coaching and playing. He currently is the Girls Director of Coaching for the Lake Norman Soccer Club (LNSC), coaching and developing girls from 9-18 years old, while directing the Atlantic Soccer League for 14-17 year olds.
"I'm thrilled to have added Adam to our coaching staff," said Ashton, who is entering his 10th season with Davidson. "Adam has been working to prepare high-level club players to join the college ranks. Now he gets to further that development of players at the college level"
"Adam brings a tremendous knowledge and passion for the game," added Ashton. "We're extremely fortunate to have a coach of his experience join our program, and all our players will benefit with his addition."
Prior to his working with the LNSC, Denton was the Elite Club National League Director of Coaching in Charlotte, N.C., from 2009-2013. He was also part of the Charlotte Soccer Club as a director/coach from 2003-2009.
"I'm very excited and honored to be joining the Davidson family as an assistant for the women's soccer program," said Denton. "I would like to thank Greg Ashton and Athletic Director Jim Murphy for this great opportunity for me. I'm very much looking forward to getting started for the upcoming season and working with the team in helping it reach its goals this year."
Denton was a standout player in college at Wingate. He broke onto the college scene by winning the South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year in 1997. He went on to be All-SAC and All-Region each of his four years, while earning All-American honors in 1999.
A native of Liverpool, England, Denton played three years of professional soccer. He played with the Everton FC in his hometown from 1995-1997.
Denton graduated from Wingate in 2001 with a bachelor of science in sports management. He currently holds coaching licenses of USSF "A", NSCAA Premier Diploma and UEFA "B".
Davidson, celebrating its 25th year of women's soccer this season, opens the 2013 campaign at home, Aug. 23 & 25, against East Carolina and Coastal Carolina.
