CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Davidson Wildcats' women's lacrosse team had 17 student-athletes as part of 1,773 Big South student-athletes who were honored with a spot on the prestigious annual Presidential Honor Roll list for the 2012-13 academic season as announced by the league office Tuesday.
To be named to the Presidential Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better for the recently-completed academic year. The 49.80 percentage (1,773 out of a total student-athletes 3,560) marks the highest percentage since 2003 and is the fourth-straight year above the 45 percent threshold, as well as the seventh consecutive year-to-year improvement.
Davidson placed seniors Lindsay Cooper, Abigail Doelger, Erin McGuire, Jessica Melby and Morgan Tarrant, juniors Erin Doherty, Liz Edwards, Rebecca Garman and Paige Logan, sophomores Emily Cooke, Katie Boyle, Sarah Duncan, Mary Leonard, Emily Rademacher and Catherine Schmidt, and freshman Emma Sissman and Holly Thomas on the list.
Radford led all Big South institutions, placing 61.84 percent of its 228 student-athletes on the Presidential Honor Roll – one of eight full-time members to have at least 50 percent on the list. UNC Asheville placed 61.76 percent of its 170 student-athletes on the list, while High Point followed with 57.71 percent of its 279 student-athletes among the honorees.
"The Big South Conference has always taken a lot of pride in the academic accomplishments of its student-athletes," said Big South Conference Commissioner Kyle B. Kallander. "To have eight member institutions above 50 percent and nearly half of all student-athletes make the Presidential Honor Roll for the fourth consecutive year is a reflection of the outstanding individuals in the Conference and their priorities. We are all extremely proud of the achievements of these fine young men and women."
Davidson finished its first year in the Big South women's lacrosse league by winning the inaugural regular season title with a perfect 7-0 mark, while going 11-7 overall. The Wildcats reached the tournament title, but fell 9-7 to High Point missing out on the program's first chance of reaching the NCAA Tournament.
