Pagonis Named to Men’s Cross Country/Track Academic All-District Team

DAVIDSON, N.C. – For the second straight year, Davidson distance runner Demetrios Pagonis was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced Thursday. As a first team selection, Pagonis advances to the national ballot for the Capital One Academic All-America team.
This past season, the Westminster, Md. native qualified for the NCAA East Region Championship for the first time in his career in the 10,000-meter run, and swept the distance events at the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships by taking the gold in both the 5000- and 10,000-meter runs. Pagonis also set new school records during the year in both the 5K (14:09.96) and 10K (29:32.58), earned All-SoCon finishes in both the 3K and 5K indoors and placed on the All-SoCon second team in cross country.
A chemistry major, Pagonis recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Davidson. He was named the SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week three times over the past two years and earned multiple annual SoCon academic honors.
For his career, Pagonis finished with three SoCon track titles (also 2012 Indoor 5000m), six All-SoCon track honors and also the school's indoor 3000-meter run record (8:16.27). He was named to the SoCon All-Freshman team in 2010 in the 10,000-meter run, and ranks as the second fastest cross country runner in Davidson history.
