DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's lacrosse team begins its quest for the program's first tournament title when the Wildcats play host to the inaugural Big South Lacrosse Tournament this Friday and Sunday, April 26 & 28 at Richardson Stadium.
The Opening Draw Control
Davidson (10-6, 7-0 Big South), fresh off a perfect run through the conference to capture the regular season title, will open the Big South Tournament Friday at 4 p.m. against fourth-seeded Liberty (8-9, 4-3 Big South).
The Wildcats finished the regular season winning eight of its last nine games, including a school-best seven-game win streak.
Big South Tournament
This is Davidson's first year in the newly formed Big South Conference. The Wildcats were previously in the National Lacrosse Conference, reaching the semifinals twice and the final once during its three years in the league.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
Friday's contest vs. Liberty will be the sixth meeting, with the Wildcats holding a perfect 5-0 record since first meeting in 2010. Davidson scored a 12-5 road victory during the regular season against the Flames. The 'Cats used a 7-0 run in the second half, behind Ann Fucigna's three goals, to break up a close game in rolling to its third win in a row.

Record Setters
It's been a record-setting season for Emily Cooke, Ann Fucigna and Jessica Melby. Cooke set a new single-game record for assists (10), while tying the single-game points mark at 11 in a win vs. Kennesaw State, Feb. 25. She went on to set the single season record for assists with 47 and broke Fucigna's single-season points record with 77. She has a career-best 30 goals on the season.
The junior Fucigna set the program's all-time marks for goals (148) and points (190), and is just three goals away from matching her single-season record of 51 set a year ago.
Melby has been strong in goal, holding the opposition to a career-best low 8.35 goals against average, which currently is tops in the Big South and the Wildcat single season records.

Weekly Honors
Senior Melby and junior Fucigna have collected Big South Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week this year. Melby was honored with the defender of the week, April 1, while Fucigna twice has captured the offensive player of the week, March 12 & April 8.
Emily Cooke gave Davidson its fourth weekly honor by grabbing the Offensive Player of the Week, April 17, her first of the season.
Last Time Out...
Sophomore Emily Cooke set another school single-season record with four points to give her 77 on the season and Davidson claimed the Big South women's lacrosse regular season title with an 11-5 road win at Winthrop to go unbeaten in league play. Davidson reached the 10-win mark for just the second time in program history.
Cooke had two goals and two assists to break Ann Fucigna's single-season points record of 74 set last year.
Senior Alanna Parker tied her career-best with five goals, giving her 31 on the season and her fourth straight year of 30 or more goals. The senior attacker helped the Wildcats break free from Winthrop in the second half by scoring three of the 'Cats' five goals in a game-ending 5-0 run for the win.
Up Next
The Wildcats, if they win, will play Sunday at 2 p.m. against the winner of High Point/Longwood in the Big South Championship and the right to earn the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
