Menden Honored as ‘Cats Complete Action at SoCon Championships

STATESBORO, Ga. – Olivia Menden earned all-freshman team honors as the Davidson women's track & field team took 12th place at the 2013 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Sunday afternoon at Georgia Southern University.
Menden earned the honor for her performance in the 800-meter run, in which she placed 11th. The Wildcats finished the meet with four points, while Western Carolina took home the title with 197.5 points. Appalachian State was the runner up with 159.5 points, followed by Georgia Southern in third with 112.5 points.
Sarah Paddon and Maggie Rickard competed in the 1,500-meter run for the 'Cats, taking 16th and 29th, respectively. Paddon posted a time of 4:49.19, while Rickard crossed the line in 5:06.95.
"Sarah was on pace for a top-three finish after a strong start, but unfortunately got tripped up midway through," said head coach Jen Straub. "It was heartbreaking to see, but I'm proud of the way she bounced back."
Four more Davidson runners competed in the 5,000-meter run, led by Erin Osment's 15th place in a time of 18:27.73. Grace Carr was close behind in 17th place, running an 18:48.84. Ali Cobb and Lauren Carter posted back-to-back finishes taking 21st and 22nd, respectively. Cobb finished in 19:19.47, followed by Carter's 19:44.12.
The 4 x 400-meter relay took second in its section, finishing ninth overall. Menden teamed with Ashlyn Gruber, Brigid Behrens and Grace Watt teamed for a time of 3:57.79, marking the second-best time in program history.
