DAVIDSON, N.C. – Sophomore Emily Cooke picked up Davidson's fourth weekly top player honor by being named the Choice Hotel Big South Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for games being played April 8-14, as announced today by the league office.
Cooke joins Ann Fucigna (offensive player of week, April 8 & March 12) and senior goalie Jessica Melby (defensive player of the week, April 1) as the three Wildcats who have captured weekly awards this season.
The sophomore continued her record-setting season by finishing a 2-0 week for Davidson with a team-best 13 points on three goals and 10 assists in wins vs. High Point and Coastal Carolina. In an 11-9 home win against rival High Point last Friday night, Cooke had her second eight-point game in the past three contests with a goal and seven assists. She picked up three of the assists in the opening minutes of the second half and then earned her final assist on the insurance goal late in the game for the final margin of 11-9.
In Sunday's win at Coastal Carolina, Cooke tallied two goals and three assists for five points as Davidson clinched at least a share of the Big South regular season title. She had a goal and two assists during the Wildcats' game-changing 10-0 run that turned a 3-1 deficit into an 11-3 lead, and eventually they would go on for an 18-8 victory.
Cooke's season has seen her set the single-season (45) and single-game (10) records for assists, while tying the single-game mark for points with 11 in a home win vs. Kennesaw State. The Woodstock, Md., native is also closing in on a single-season record for points, needing just four more to break Fucigna's school-record 74 points set last year.
She has tallied nine games of five or more points, including five straight. Cooke, who is second on the team with 26 goals, has seven multi-goal games. She has twice scored career highs of four goals in games vs. Virginia Tech and Campbell.
Riding a school-record seven-game win streak, Davidson wraps up its home slate of games Wednesday evening with a matchup against No. 9 Duke at 6 p.m. in Richardson Stadium.
