W. Track Strong In Final Prep at Carolina’s Cup

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Sarah Paddon and Olivia Menden each claimed a win for the Davidson women's track & field team at Friday's Carolina's Cup, hosted by Winthrop at the Irwin Belk Track. The meet served as the Wildcats' final tune up before next week's SoCon Championships.
Paddon earned the win in the 1,500-meter run, crossing the finish line in 4:40.16. Presley Parkes followed in fourth, clocking in at 4:45.94. Maggie Rickard rounded out the Wildcats in the event with a sixth place finish in a time of 5:08.28.
Menden earned the 'Cats' second triumph of the day claiming the 800-meter run just ahead of teammate Brigid Behrens as Davidson took three of the top four spots in the event. Menden finished in 2:15.56 for the win, with Behrens at her heels in a time of 2:15.87. Both times were personal records for the runners, as Behrens joined the all-time top 10 to rank third all-time behind Menden in the event. Grace Watt continued to improve, dropping nearly two seconds from last weekend's personal best to run a 2:17.93 for fourth place.
Ashlyn Gruber ran a career-best in the 400-meter dash, moving into seventh on the program's top-10 list. She claimed fifth in the race, running a time of 1:00.31.
Kate Kostecky picked up a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:07.90. The mark bested her previous personal record by nearly two seconds, moving her into seventh place in program history.
Representing the Wildcats in the 200-meter dash were Gruber and Gracie Gordon. Gordon ran to a fifth place finish, with her time of 26.80 placing her ninth in the all-time records. Gruber grabbed seventh in the event, running a 27.41.
A slew of Wildcats competed in the 3,000-meter run, led by Erin Osment's third place finish in 10:38.72. Ali Cobb ran a time of 10:57.10 for fourth place, while Lauren Carter finished in fifth in 11:01.32. Annamarie Armistead grabbed sixth in 11:05.55, followed by Grace Carr in sixth with a mark of 11:07.79.
In the field events, Molly Marshall tied for second in the pole vault. She recorded a height of 3.05 meters. Lexie Winograd earned a seventh place ranking in the event with a height of 2.60 meters.
Gordon also competed in the long jump, picking up fifth place. She finished with a distance of 4.75 meters.
The Wildcats will head to Statesboro, Ga., next weekend for the 2013 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Georgia Southern.
